Welcome to So… You’re Having Twins!

About Marie-Lou

My husband and I had been trying to start a family for a few years. I went to a fertility clinic but the doctors couldn’t figure out why we couldn’t conceive. We started the adoption process and were on a waiting list. This was a very stressful time for us.

During Christmas 2012, we went on vacation to the Bahamas. This was to be our last relaxing moment as we were due to start the insemination process in January.  This was our last ditch Hail Mary pass effort as we waited to jump through the adoption process hurdles.

Turns out life had different plans. We didn’t go through with either the insemination nor the adoption… I got pregnant!!! All on our own.  Without the help of doctors or science… the only assistance was the beach and a tasty rhum punch.

I had my first ultrasound at 7 weeks, we saw a tiny little spot on the monitor and there was 1 heartbeat. We were sooooo happy.

At 12 weeks, I got my second ultrasound and there we got the news, we were having twins! I almost fell right off the table. I was shaking in my (hospital) gown. My husband was over the moon with the news and couldn’t stop laughing.  It was more like a cackle really… he sounded like the joker in a 60s Batman episode.

The doctor was explaining a bunch of things to me about twins but I couldn’t pay too much attention.  My mind was in overdrive and my otherwise logical outlook on life had gone on neutral at the sound of my husband’s laughter.   The one thing I understood was that at almost 38 years old, I was in what the doctor referred to as a “high risk” pregnanccy.

Having twins is NOT like having 2 kids from 2 pregnancies

Despite what your neighbor, your cousin or that annoying and sweetly condescending complete stranger whom will be commenting while you’re in line at the grocery store, it’s not the same thing. Having twins is the most magical thing you can experience, as long as you accept to let go of a lot of things.  Like the luxury of combing your hair and the crazy notion that coffee should be consumed hot… not 2 days old off the bathroom counter.

Bah… you can just keep your old stuff from a previous pregnancy right? Ummmm nope.

You can’t just keep the equipment you had from a previous pregnancy, they use everything simultaneously. Yes it’s more money… like a truck load if you aren’t careful, but with my help, I can help you find the right products for you and avoid costly mistakes.

I’ve done tons of online researches regarding twins but most of my advice come from hands on experience and good old trial and error.  I now know what are the things you will need, what is perfectly useless unless you have more money than sense.  (Scented towel heater anyone?)

I have great hacks to save time (extremely precious) and I want to share my findings with you.

Find what works for YOU

I will be discussing all sorts of things related to twins. From pregnancy, delivery, hospital equipment, home essentials and the best kind of sanity saving tricks I’ve come up with.  I will share my own experiences in hopes that you will find what works for you.

If you ever need a hand or have any questions, feel free to leave them below and I will be more than happy to help you out.

All the best,

Marie-Lou
